In keeping with the publication of his poem in the 199th issue of Prime Number Magazine this month, Sander also published his first book, The forest of my mind, which includes her award-winning piece as well as her entire collection of poetry she wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So much has happened since I won my award. It’s an exciting time for me just to finally see my book in print and be able to launch it, ”said Sander, noting that the collection represents his first foray into the world of professional poetry as a writer.

And as someone who has debated at length whether or not to publish her work to the world, Sander is also excited to launch her new online Pathways to Poetry program aimed at helping emerging and established poets advance their craft. . level and gain the confidence and knowledge they need to take that next step by publishing and promoting their work.

“Just by working on the poems and publishing my book, I realized how powerful poetry was when I was writing about my own grief and loss and that there are so many feelings right now. from indigenous communities to healthcare workers to parents trying to teach their kids home during the pandemic and keep jobs. I mean, there are so many situations right now, and I just think poetry is a step towards healing.

“I really hope this can light a way for people,” Sander said.

At a cost of $ 495 with payment plans and scholarships available for those who cannot afford it, Pathways to Poetry will be offered in phases, the first of which is available now and focuses on offering counseling. , writing tips and exercises as well as the basics of writing in different poetic styles, and includes ideas from Sander and a number of other acclaimed and award-winning poets along the way.

“Even as established poets, we need to diversify and always expand our work,” Sander said. “It’s important to have reminders and also to look at different types of perspectives and different techniques to use in poetry.
