OLD FORGE – View, the arts and culture center at 3273 Route 28, is launching three online workshops starting April 11.
These multi-week courses will allow people to learn a new skill while meeting all necessary isolation and social distancing guidelines. The workshops currently offered are: “Secrets of great narrative writing”, “Repairing the embroidery” and “Essential oils”.
• In “Secrets of Great Narrative Writing”, instructor David Hazard will help participants understand the powerful “substructures” on which professional writers build their stories. He will guide the participants through the storyboard, structuring a story in terms of ‘acts’, scene building and character building.
From this four-session workshop, participants will gain the ability to create a solid storyline and understand how to create compelling scenes and characters. The writing class will take place on April 11, 18, 25 and May 2, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost of the course is $ 40 for guests and $ 30 for View members. The registration deadline is April 9.
• In Niki English’s three-session workshop titled “Embroidery Mending”, participants will learn the art of Shashiko, a pre-industrial Japanese technique of mending clothes with beautiful and crafty stitches. Participants will learn the basic stitch for Shashiko, as well as how to create a geometric pattern, transfer a pattern to fabric, and how to tailor the pattern to the specific repair.
Participants will work on their own garment to add stitches to a pocket or highlight the features of the garment in some way. The sessions will take place on April 14, 21 and 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the course is $ 73 if the participant needs a kit of necessary sewing materials sent to them, or $ 65 if they have their own materials. Pre-registration is compulsory and places are limited.
• “Essential Oils” pairs attendees with Becky Jones, Founder of North Country Health & Wellness, for a four-session workshop where they will learn about the many uses of these special oils. Each session will have a different topic: Introduction to Essential Oils and how to use them in everyday life, Natural Solutions (for cleaning solutions, pest control and disinfectants), Cooking and Mixology with Oils, and Pampering yourself with them. Oils (sugar, scrubs, salt scrubs and facials).
The course includes all oil samples (shipped weekly to participants after registering for the course) for making a sugar scrub, facials, cleansing solution, and anti-stress oils.
The dates for “Essential oils” will be April 16, 23 and 30 and May 7 from 4 pm to 6 pm. The price for an individual session is $ 15 and $ 40 for all sessions.
