On June 17, the Chappaqua Central School District School Board appointed Mr. Geoff Curtis as the new Director of Sports, Physical Education and Health, effective July 1, 2021.
Mr. Curtis is a dedicated educational professional with a recognized and respected ability to motivate and educate students and connect with the community. Throughout the in-depth research process, which included interviews with committees of parents, students, teachers, staff, administrators and the Board of Education, Geoff has consistently demonstrated an in-depth knowledge of health and physical education, a passion for sports and his enthusiasm for learning.
A former college athlete, Mr. Curtis began his coaching career (basketball, football, softball, track and field, volleyball) in 1989 and entered the classroom in 1991 as a teacher of health sciences, physical education and development. American History at Marcus Whitman Junior High in Port Orchard, WA. He then moved to the East in 2001 to teach at John Jay High School, where he is currently a teacher, assistant athletic director, instructional manager, varsity baseball coach and peer leadership advisor.
Mr. Curtis is a comprehensive educator whose passion for his work is contagious. He will support us as we continue to strive to create a learning community, where students, parents and staff join in the pursuit of academic excellence and personal development in a caring environment. “Geoff has been described as an exceptional human being and educator who builds strong relationships with students, teachers and families,” said Dr Ackerman, Principal of Schools. “And that he teaches and leads with compassion and empathy, which will help nurture positive morale in our schools and athletic programs.”
Mr. Curtis holds an undergraduate degree in General Studies from Lewis-Clark State College and a Masters in Physical Education from Southern Oregon State College. He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Administration from St. Rose’s College and leadership certifications in School Construction, 4-12 Health, and K-12 Physical Education.
We would also like to thank Mr. Jason Semo for his four years of leadership and service to our sport community and wish him well as he advances in his career as Director of Health, Physical Education and Sports. sports closer to home.
