Nigerian team wrestlers to rewrite Olympics history, Dare

Youth and Sports Development Minister Sunday Dare assured Nigerian wrestlers at the Tokyo 2020 Games will rewrite Nigeria’s history at the Olympics.

The minister gave this assurance during a visit to the wrestlers’ training camp in Bayelsa state.

“I commend the Bayelsa State Government and the Interim President of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation for the great support given to our wrestling team. I think the greatest recognition I have tonight is for these six young wrestlers, I salute them for the months and years that they have worked hard to perfect the art of wrestling, I saw them here in February from last year and watched them on TV in and out of this country.

He further said; “What I see tonight are champions and I have also seen them over the years show a certain level of discipline which is rare. You know there is no defeat against the Nigerian spirit, it is your time and it is the time for Nigeria to go to the Olympics and rewrite the Olympic history of wrestling in this country.

“I’m in awe of not expecting something different, knowing the work ethic of not only the president but also these young wrestlers. I’ve been following the effort they’ve made over the past two years, we’ve sent them to so many championships around the world and we’ve seen them excel and stay consistent in their performance. Seeing them compete today, I see them at a very high level, the spirit is high and the level of technicality and depth of wrestling is comparable to what we see elsewhere in the world.
