Repeats weekly until Thu Apr 16, 2020.
April 16, 2020 (All day)
Sierra Lutheran High School will host a free online writing workshop called “Paper Pointers” on April 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. for all students in Grades 5-8 who need help writing essays and essays. during statewide quarantine.
Katie Allin, Head of the Sierra Lutheran English Department, and SLHS Director of School Development, Brian Underwood, will use the free video conference, courtesy of Zoom, to illustrate a variety of graphic organizers and helpful strategies for helping students to write their homework.
“The transition from traditional education to online education for students has created a vacuum for many students to get the help they need with required writing assignments,” Underwood explained. “As a public service during this difficult time, Sierra Lutheran is eager to help students who are struggling to begin or complete required writing assignments. Paper Pointers will focus on illustrating useful tools and strategies to prepare students for success in their current and future writing assignments.
This highly interactive 40-minute workshop, which will include digital writing resources for students to take with them, will demonstrate how to easily break down the writing process into manageable steps. Participants will receive advice on things such as how to develop or respond to writing topics; write a dissertation and topic statements, conduct scholarly research, mix unique thoughts with cited papers, and how to effectively summarize an article in conclusion.
“One of the most common challenges students face is ‘writer block’ or simply not knowing where to start. During this unprecedented time, it is even more important to give students strategies that will help them think and feel successful during the writing process. We hope this workshop alleviates any additional anxieties that students may have regarding doing writing assignments at home. “
To maximize the instruction ratio, Paper Pointers will be limited to the first 20 students who register at the Paper Pointers link located at the bottom of the Sierra Lutheran website, www.slhs.com. Upon registration, students and parents will receive a link and password for the video conference.
