Stressed about holiday shopping? Find the perfect gift at the Bloomington Gallery Walk

With the fading of the last fall colors, Bloomington is transitioning into the exciting holiday season. Wish lists are written and buyers begin the daunting task of purchasing the perfect gifts for their loved ones. When holiday shopping gets overwhelming, the most wonderful time of year can quickly become the most stressful.

The Gallery Walk of Bloomington is the perfect solution to these holiday shopping problems. Every first Friday of the month, 11 downtown galleries open their doors to host special exhibitions and serve refreshments from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Galleries offer a wide range of unique holiday gifts, including paintings, photographs, pottery, sculpture, jewelry and more from a collection of emerging and established artists. Some galleries also offer classes, workshops and special events for the community. Every purchase directly supports hard-working gallery owners and talented artists, making everyone’s vacations a little brighter.

All member galleries are within walking distance of each other. Every first Friday, the galleries present new exhibitions, offering the public a unique experience with every visit.

“I saw joining [Gallery Walk] as a step to participate in Bloomington’s great gallery community, ”said Erin Tobey, Managing Director and Co-Owner of Rainbow Bakery. “I appreciate that Gallery Walk provides a context for people working in the visual arts to collaborate and connect, and to give the community an accessible entry point into the visual arts scene outside of college. “

Gallery Walk was founded in 2003. The concept was to strengthen Bloomington’s art scene by bringing together various galleries with the common goal of promoting local, national and international artists.

“The idea is to create a festival atmosphere that makes it fun for people to come and see great art,” said Martha Moore, president of Gallery Walk and co-owner of Pictura Gallery. “They will get refreshments, they will see friends and hopefully go shopping as well.”

Gallery Walk safely reopens spaces to the community at large. Please take note of events, exhibitions and places open and accessible to the public. Specific information can be found by clicking on each gallery page at
